Rachel Ferguson

Rachel Ferguson

Solitude is a form of self protection. It is a place where one can avoid responsibilities to others and deny any need for approval. It allows time to escape from the demands of day to day life. It is simple, contained and still.

My paintings are meant to convey the comfort of solitude, but they also reveal its limits. The figures are confined by the space they occupy and their bodies are rendered inactive by their thoughts. Ultimately, the security their contained poses suggest should lead one to think of entrapment.

My work attempts to communicate both a dependence on solitude and a yearning for some outside force to break it.

Pamela Wilson

Pamela Wilson

''Much like Jan van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden, and other Northern Renaissance artists who were obsessed with inserting symbolic clues into a composition to case deciphering a painting's message, Wilson conveys, in sobering detail, the descriptive elements of an individual, one whose very dress echoes the apparently bizarre qualities of their personality. Both location and dress magnify the impression that her subjects are more lost souls than active participants in the real world.

In her paintings, Pamela Wilson struggles with the mysteries of the human experience. She builds on associations, friendships, and memories from the distant past as well as present day. With her current exhibition, Pamela Wilson returns to the gallery where she began her career as a professional artist fifteen years ago.''
