Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting that speaks. Simonides

Irene Belknap

Irene Belknap

In my work there can be no final "this means that." It is my belief that which sustains in painting is the evocative; that which calls to mind both the artist and the viewer. My aim is to evoke a sense of the unknown where final meaning is withheld, thus the mind is incited to allow a journey beyond ourselves toward that which we sense but cannot explain; that which we know but cannot prove.

German born Irene Belknap received a BA degree in History of Art and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. “Painting is like poetry,” says Belknap, “it allows for simultaneity of meaning.” Entanglements is a giclée print limited edition of 150 signed and numbered by the artist, available on paper or canvas.

I love your work. I feel transported into another world when looking at your images, and the use of ( David's) words with your images is compelling. I feel you take your viewer into mysterious uncharted places, from where I for one , am reluctant to return.
Thank you. Wonderful work.
