Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting that speaks. Simonides

Sean Cheetham

''Sean Cheetham (b. 1977) is a young urban realist who paints highly developed portraits as well as heroic-sized religious subjects that draw on Biblical imagery. Cheetham is a fine draftsman and all of his works depend on his drawing skills and training in the art and science of drawing. In recent months he has begun a series of small portraits in oil and graphite. From an early age, Cheetham knew that he wanted to be an artist. Like many painters, as a boy he was a comic-book enthusiast and enjoyed drawing comic characters. Growing up in the Bay Area, he began studying watercolor painting in San Mateo with James Torlackson. From the advent of his formal studies he had the patience for meticulous rendering and favored subjects that emphasized his drawing ability. After high school Cheetham attended Art Center College of Design as a scholarship student, where he studied with Aaron Smith, David Luce and the draftsman Mike Hussar, who became a major influence. Now that Cheetham's education has been completed, he is concentrating on gallery work and commissions. A large allegorical composition of his was recently featured in the Paramount release "Northfork."''
