Artist's Statement
My purpose for painting is three-folded:
RE-CREATION :
I see painting as a physical and sensual approach to give flesh and bones to a long-buried instinctual voice.I question our surrounding of artificially-injected learned reality or supremacist "ready-made" reality and "fast-food for the eyes" to RE-CREATE in its stead A LIVING IMAGE ; the physical presence of the painting conversing with the on-looker whose unconscious is being called upon to enter progressively into layers of meanings, sort of "archeology of the mind".Some paintings more than others seem to work this way.
RECOVERY OF SELF :
I see painting too as an act of recovery,a personnal quest to unity of self.As I paint,I gather the pieces, like a meditation in action, fusing the collected parts into an organic vision coagulated into the oil work of the painting. AND
RECONNECTION :
I want to re-connect the human to a more organistic understanding of life, borrowing from the ever-lasting woman-spirit as "LIFE-GIVER",notion today too often dirided or forgotten.I project the almost hieraldic figure of Womanhood into the one of the Tree as the perfect combination of the sacredness of the Natural Life we are today too often alienated from.
1978-80 : Art studies in the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris 1980 : Makes copies in the Louvre of Courbet,Goya,Rubens,Caravaggio...
1987 : Arrives in the USA
