Apart from historical paintings, he also made numerous genre paintings which were mainly based on old liberated areas of Northern Shaanxi. Some were taken from sketches in his travel. His paintings bear the resonant coloring of folk art and the cultural features of folklore. In the middle of the eighties, he traveled abroad and feasted his eyes with the famous spots of European countries. He broadened his horizons and made extensive sketches and exercised in drawing. With art language he continued to develop the features of folklore art and persisted in depicting the local conditions and customs of Northern Shaanxi, his second hometown. His works are permeated with charms of lucidness, liveliness, simplicity and plainness, showing a breath of youthful vividness. On the other hand, he never forgets to devote his talent and art works to the cause of artistic education.
