Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting that speaks. Simonides

Jussi Pöyhönen

Jussi Pöyhönen was born in Uusikaupunki, Finland in 1975. In 1998, he enrolled in the Master’s program at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki. As part of his practical studies, he spent two years studying classical drawing and painting in Italy at The Florence Academy of Art. In the summer 2004, he was able to spend some time with Odd Nedrum, observing his way of painting. Though he has studied European 19th century academic traditions and been influenced by Russian 19th academics, he is recently going more towards the impressionistic way of painting, with an emphasis on light, air and colour. Jussi Pöyhönen is currently living and working in Finland.
