The theme of my work over the past few years has been the human head, more often than not as portraits on a monumental scale.
From birth we are programmed to respond to other faces. Yet as we mature, unless involved in an intimate situation, close proximity becomes socially unacceptable. To an adult the face seen with such immediacy, can be tender, exciting and sexually charged or disquieting, uncomfortable, and even threatening.
On occasion, and increasingly, I work with dynamic and sometimes tightly cropped angles, capturing a fleeting expression or a fragment of the human face; the result of a long standing fascination with street and reportage photography.
Formerly a graphic designer and advertising art director I am a self-taught fine artist working exclusively in oils.
I was elected a member of the Bath Society of Artists in 2005. I exhibit mainly in London and the South West, and have paintings in private collections in the USA & UK.
