Virginia is a visual artist living in Brooklyn, New York.
She was born in Berkeley California and grew up in Connecticut, trailing her entomologist father with a butterfly net in one hand and a sketchbook in the other. Not much has changed. Two decades later, she found herself trudging through the Amazon basin after a team of scientists, working as a scientific illustrator.
She studied at Oberlin College, where she received the Ellen Battell Stoeckel Fellowship to Yale’s Norfolk Summer School of Art. She received her MFA from MICA’s Hoffberger School of Painting in Baltimore in 2011. After graduating, she spent time in Berlin where she researched German folklore and joined the Agora Collective. Upon moving back to Brooklyn, she has worked as a studio assistant for Julie Heffernan, Adam Helms and Wangechi Mutu.
