''The experiences I had growing up in a bicultural family fuel the imagery, and emotional quality of my work. My father is an immigrant from Mexico, and my mother a white American. Overtime, I learned to perceive cultural dichotomies and accommodate conflicting viewpoints. The deconstruction of my identity is at the root of what I paint and how I paint. I explore personal experiences through my work that are informed by photos, emotions and memory. Working in layers, I use masking techniques to jumble formal qualities such as abstraction, realistic representation, pixel emulation, and written narrative. Combining divergent elements suggests a pluralistic reality, and the imagery demonstrates the difference of my bicultural perspective.''
