Nicholas Hiltner born 1982. Hiltner studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art and received classical training from Jacob Collins at the Water Street Atelier (2004-2007). Since completing this rigorous course of study, which included much drawing (first from plaster casts of antique sculpture and later from live models), Hiltner’s work has been included in several group exhibitions with Jacob Collins in California, Texas and Massachusetts. These exhibitions showcased the proficiency of Water Street graduates, as evidenced by the beautiful, classical paintings they are now creating on their own. Hiltner currently teaches classical figure drawing at the Grand Central Academy in New York City. He also teaches at the Hudson River School for Landscape with Jacob Collins, Nicholas Hiltner, and Edward Minoff where the importance of field studies and theory is emphasized in preparation for a finished studio painting. Hiltner has been featured in American Artist: “Six Premier Landscape Artists” April 2008 and American Artist Workshop: “The Hudson River School for Landscape: Reviving an American Tradition” Winter 2007. He currently lives and works in New York City.
