Luis Fracchia

Luis Fracchia
Curriculum

He was born in Asuncion, Paraguay, in 1959. In 1972 he travelled to Rome, Italy, where he lived until 1980; this is where, upon finishing his school studies, he began his artistic activity. From an early age, Italy's historical artistic accumulation of a thousand years caused a deep impression on the artist, who, after continuous trips to Italian cities and later to admire and study the great frescos of the Italian Quattrocento, decided to register at the prestigious Scuola di San Giacomo in Rome, in the specialty of "Wall Frescos" in the old Renaissance style, and also made a foray into etching at the Lorusso workshop. He was to have his first two exhibits in the Italian capital.
In 1980 he travelled to Mexico, after admiring a major exhibit of Siqueiros in Florence. Since then he has lived in the Mexican Republic, for the first years in Mexico City and at present, in the city of Cuernavaca.

His work has, at the present time, achieved a position and recognition in Mexican visual art, with many important solo and group participations in this country and abroad, where his strong projection begins, participating in international auctions such as Sotheby's. Works of his are to be found in private collections in Mexico, South America, the United States and Europe.

Hallucination of Reality in Luis Fracchia's paintings

Augusto Roa Bastos

There is an excellent way to discover if a work of art, even those that seem to be drawn with a meticulous, photographic, mathematical faithfulness to the real models, possess their own mysterious, furious, sensitive, internal reality. This way - this perception - consists in feeling, in verifying that the forms copied resist visual translation of the external appearance of reality. Something completely unprecedented that annuls and erases the identity of the original by having absorbed it through osmosis. This is what happens in Luis Fracchia's pictorial world. His figuration is a paradigm of this resistance to translation, to literal iconographic representation. Pushed to its extreme tension of model faithfulness, it produces the dialectic jump to the overly real or hyper-real, in any event to a new ontological nature of the real. Hence, the inanity of classifications.

In most of Luis Fracchia's works, what might impress us at first sight as the powerful, exclusive pulse of reality is nothing else but the psychic, creative, integrative, static energy of someone who looks through the palpitating matter of reality, with a visionary perception, to see the other side of things, to register in his paintings the mutations of his own states of mind, the reception of the light from a star in the place where it has always shone, but where nobody saw it before, according to Franz Kafka's definition of the total artist.

Somewhere in Luis' paintings, he does not know where, there is a dark aura that at the same time separates and unites different visions. The human body, as the untouched temple of being, the presence and revelation of the most intimate and secret details of objects. The hard, pure object. The infinite prolongation of a line, of a volume. Touched by a primordial, almost genesic, emotion, we witness the slow appearance of these luminous, sensitive, tender, and at the same time implacably rough forms, on the horizon of the painting; we see them come closer until they blend in the visual explosion of likeness, in the indescribable mystery of identification.

Out of this visible, but penetrating, fusion arises another reality, the limpid, clear image, that triumph of artistic creation, a mixture of faith, belief, negation, together with all that this implies of suffering, euphoria, intoxication, containment of the implacable furies of life, surrounded, besieged from without by a Dionisian joy of living. Luis Fracchia's work offers us the essence of the universal in the arch extending from the detail of a human foot, transformed by art into the pinnacle of being, to the pendulum formed by a cob of corn swinging above a cliff.

HERNAN MIRANDA Was born in Concepcion , Paraguay in 1960 Although he never studied art at any of fine arts academies, as an adolescent he attended several drawing work shops. He has developed this tecnic during his first art experiences and this has deeply influenced his managing of the "Clarooscuro" and the tone value scale of this paintings. In the year 1987 he entered into te world of painting as an artist, organizing his first art show earning an award in drawing at a contest held by The "Magister Gallery" in Asuncion . Since them he has developed his paintings in a very prolific way ,participating at many arts shows in Asuncion an abroad. Obsessed by the light of the "Tenebristas" painters, Miranda has studies the works of Rembrantd, Caravaggio, Vermeer and the Compositions of Sanchez Cotan, Morandi and specially Antonio Lopez which has motivated him to seek beyond the academic virtuosity with a pragmatic painting , exploring deeper into the illusionist aspect of images , with a simple composition, Miranda not only seeks "Visual Effect" but also "Visual Affection" with elements through which the viewer finds easy communication and at the same time stimulates his visual perception. Upon studing the form and colors of the composition ,the artist considers "light" as being the protagonist of the paintings. At present Miranda is developing the "Bi Realism series", which consist of integrating the support (Wood panel, canvas, paper, pasteboard, etc,) into the painting, conserving the visual sthetics while bringing together the real and the " Virtual" reality. From 1993 to 1997 he taught painting at the "Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes" (National Fine Arts school) of Paraguay. Since 1998 he teaches realistic painting at the private studio and gives seminars at many institutions of art.
